Hey Friends,

Last week I shared 6 Reasons Why Christian Girls Should NOT Have a Blog (if you haven’t read that post yet, feel free to go back and catch up!). Today I’m following that up with 6 Reasons Why Christian Girls SHOULD Have a Blog. At the end of this post, I will be sharing some of favorite resources for blogging, and I want to hear your thoughts on the subject as well! Let’s get started!

6 Reasons Why Christian Girls SHOULD Have a Blog

#1 You Should Have a Blog if God Has Laid a Particular Burden on Your Heart

“But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus to testify the gospel of the grace of God.” Acts 20:24

If God has laid a particular burden on your heart then you need to do something about it! God gives different burdens to different people so that we all take part in accomplishing His work. Some of you may have a burden for teen girls and young adult women (like me). Others of you may have a burden for missions, orphans, or struggling single moms.

God may also want you to share a particular message with others. We are all supposed to share the message of the Gospel, but sometimes God gives us a unique message to share as well. I want to encourage young women to walk with God, embrace Biblical womanhood and live a radiant life in Christ. In some ways that is my unique message. Some of you may also have a unique message that God wants you to share in accordance to the burden He has given you.

A blog can help you “go to work” on the burden of your heart, and to share the unique message God has given you. The main goal is to point people to Christ.

(One more thought – sometimes a blog may not be God’s way for you to share your message and follow the burden He has given you. Some of you may also be called to have a real-life ministry at your church or in your home…not just online. Be sure to pray and ask the Lord how He wants you to follow your particular burden.)

#2 You Should Have a Blog if You Want to Encourage Others to Be Godly

“But exhort one another daily while it is called Today; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.” Hebrews 3:13

True godliness is sorely lacking in our world and in Christians today.

Do you have a desire to be godly and encourage godliness in others? Writing a blog, might just be one way for you to do so.

Instead of promoting ungodliness on the web, you can be a light in the darkness encouraging those around you to be godly and take a stand for Christ.

#3 You Should Have a Blog if You Already Have a Godly Influence on Those Around You

“…but be thou an example of the believers in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12b

Are there a lot of people looking up to you? Do you have a loyal following of friends and peers who value your opinion and look to you for a good example?

If this is the case, you can use this influence in a godly way. You might want to consider having a blog so that you can share what you are learning with your friends, peers, and others. At the same time you can encourage them to do right and live for God.

A real-life, in-person example is much better than an online example (so don’t forget about the people around you!). However, you can still use a blog as a tool to influence and encourage others.

#4 You Should Have a Blog if You Have a Talent for Writing

“If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God: if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise, and dominion forever and ever.” 1 Peter 4:11

If you love to write and have a talent for writing… then God may want you to put that talent to work using a blog.

Blogging is primarily writing, so if you want to start a blog, you better enjoy writing at least a little bit!

If you have an obvious talent or interest in writing, ask God how He wants you to use your talent. It might just be that He would want you to start a blog and write for His honor and glory.

#5 You Should Have a Blog if Godly Authorities are Supportive of the Idea

“Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.” Ephesians 5:21

One of the reasons why I still have my blog, is because the authorities in my life are very supportive of it. My husband is my biggest supporter, but there’s also my parents, my in-laws, and even the Pastors at my church. All of them are very supportive of this blog.

God continues to show me I’m on the right track because of the godly authorities in my life.

The same should go for you as well. Are any godly authorities in your life encouraging you to start and write a blog? If they are, you may want to seriously pray about it! Whenever you want to venture into something new, always pray about it and talk to godly authorities first!

#6 You Should Have a Blog if You See the Need for Godly Influences Online

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16

The “world wide web” is full of wickedness… and we must be very careful. However the internet can still be used to promote godliness. A light for God will shine bright in the darkness. People are looking for the Truth, and as Christians we have the Truth – it’s in God’s Word!

While so many people (including Christians) are abusing the internet, blogs, and social media, we can learn how to use them the right way. We can use the internet to share the truth about God, to share His Word, and to be a godly influence in a place full of darkness.

Final Thoughts

Nothing that’s done to influence others should be taken lightly. Before starting a blog you must make sure it’s something God actually wants you to do – and you must make sure the godly authorities in your life are supportive as well. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again…before starting a blog, pray about it!

Do You Think God Wants You to Start a Blog?

If you genuinely believe God may want you to start a blog, then keep reading. I will give you some tips and pointers about blogging to guide you on your way…

If you just want a simple blog to share with friends and family, you can start a free blog through blogger.com or wordpress.com. Another site that people like is wix.com although I have personally never had a blog through wix.

If you want an “official blog” that has more capabilities than a free one… then I would suggest you use Blue Host to start your own self hosted WordPress blog. (WordPress.com is free, wordpress.org is for self hosted websites).

When a wanted to start a blog several years ago, I did as much research about blogging as I possibly could! I read a lot of articles and books. I googled my blogging questions and I searched for any information that would help me as I ventured into the blogging world. Here are two extremely helpful resources for beginners:

Beginner Blogging Resources:

AmyLynnAndrews.com (A great website for both beginners and “advanced” bloggers)

WP Beginner (A website for help with WordPress)

Blog Inc. (A great book for beginners!)

My Favorite Blogging Book:

This book is for those who already know a good bit about blogging. It is primarily about how to make money with your blog… but even if you never intend to make a penny off of your website, I would still highly recommend this book!
