Read my E-Book, Radiant Modesty, to learn how to embrace God's ideal for the clothing we wear!

Great Books on the Home. Need some fresh ideas for your home? Need some encouragement as a busy mom and homemaker? Here is a list of over 15 excellent books on the home for women!

Hello Friends… Happy Monday!

Today I am sharing a list of some really great books on the home. Why should we read about the home? Well, most of us spend more time at home than any other place. Most likely, it’s where our family members live as well. We go home to rest, relax, and rejuvenate. And like the famous quote goes… “there’s no place like home.” So, why not learn how to make our homes the best place they can possibly be?

I realize that many of you are single young ladies still living at home, and preparing to someday have a home of your own. Trust me when I say that now is the best time to read up, and learn about homemaking, home-management, organization and more!

Some of you may be like me… newly married, and still adjusting to caring for a home of your own. This is such a fun time! Books are our best friends as we learn to balance caring for a new hubby, and a new home!

Last but not least, some of you may be seasoned home-makers, looking for new ideas, inspiration, and even encouragement when it comes to caring for your home. You’ve come to the right place!

The following list are some of my favorite homemaking books – whether they cover cleaning, organizing, or decorating… I’ve categorized them all to help you find a book that you’ll love. Below you will find links to each book as well as I brief description of each one. Have fun browsing!

For Single Girls:

Joyfully At Home

Written by a single gal herself, this is a very encouraging book for single young women. I loved reading about _________ routine and how she spends her days at home, as well as how she helps her siblings and her mother. This book will encourage young women to make the most out of their single years at home, and will help them see the value in this priceless time of preparation.

Beautiful Girlhood

This is not a book on the home per se’…. but it is an excellent book instructing young ladies how to use their teenage years (and beyond) to prepare for the future. This book covers topics closely related to the home, while also covering quite a bit of advice on cultivating strong Christian character and morals. (This book uses the Kings Jame Version ♥)

Organization and Home Management Books:

Simply Clean

My favorite cleaning book to-date. I love Simply Clean! When I read this book the ideas of a simple, daily, cleaning routine really “clicked” with me. I love the author’s style as well as her helpful routines, tips and suggestions. I am borrowing this book from the library for the second time, and hope to add it to my collection someday soon!

The Complete Book of Home Organization

I read this book before I had my own home. The beautiful cover and colorful pictures just drew me inside the pages! I love learning about organization and this book did not disappoint. This book holds hundreds of practical organizational tips with lots of pictures and cute illustrations. A great book for the organizationally- challenged homemaker. 🙂

The Complete Book of Clean

Written by the same author as the previous book… The Complete Book of Clean also includes hundred of tips, beautiful photos, and illustrations. Personally, I think some of the cleaning routines in this book are rather involved and not a good fit for me… but some ladies would probably love the author’s detailed cleaning routines and schedules. I love this book for it’s photos and practical cleaning tips – not for the routines suggested.

Sink Reflections

An oldie but a goodie… I first heard about blogger and “Fly Lady” Marcia Cilley back in high school. This book is already about 15 years old, but I found a copy at my local thrift shop and I have been enjoying this book so much! Some of Marcia’s advice sounds a little silly, but it’s all so practical and seems to be extremely effective for those who follow it. I’ve been enjoying this gem of a book, and trying to implement her advice into my life! This is a great book for those who are overwhelmed with keeping house, and don’t know how to get control of all the many tasks that homemaking requires.

Clear the Clutter, Find Happiness

This is a small book with tips on how to get control of the clutter in your home. Each page contains a little tip or a quote… each one relating to cleaning and organization. If you’re not a fan of big books, this is a nice book to pick up and flip through the colorful pages filled with tips and ideas.

More Hours in My Day

Written from a Christian perspective, Emilie Barnes is an excellent teacher on time and home management. I read this books years ago and found it very helpful. I remember helpful advice on topics varying from time management (obviously), to meal prep, and home organization. An excellent book for any woman looking for practical help with time and home management

Simplify Your Space

Disclaimer… I haven’t read this one completely (yet)! 😉 However, I loved Simplify Your Time by the same author, and I grabbed this one after seeing it at the library. It’s now sitting on my bedside table just waiting to be read. If you like short chapters, practical advice and helpful to-dos, you may want to check this book out as well.

Home Decor Books:

The Inspired Room

This book was a bridal shower gift and I absolutely love the color, design, and pictures in this book! While the author’s decorating style isn’t quite like mine, I still really like this book. This is a great book just to pick up and peruse for some ideas and inspiration for decorating your home!

This author has also written a book titled, Love the Home You Have. I’ve perused the book several times but have not had the chance to read it yet.

A Touch of Farmhouse Charm

If you like the ever-growing farm-house style of decorating than you will probably love this book! It’s full of pictures and how-to projects for creating furniture pieces and decorations for your own farm-house style home. I enjoyed this book, but I am not too much of a Do-It-Yourself-er. This book is good for those who love creative projects and simple to hard home projects.

The Nesting Place

I used to babysit for a mom who owned this book… and I loved flipping through the colorful pages. Some of the design ideas aren’t quite my taste or style, but this is another great book just for ideas and inspiration… and a quick flip-through the pages will get your creative juices flowing when it comes to home decor.

The Little Book of BIG Decorating Ideas

This is a little (but fat!) book that is chock full of decorating ideas. If you aren’t a huge reader, you will like the simple pages and colorful photos in this book. Most pages contain colorful pictures and decorating tips that you can apply to your own home.

Books on Life at Home:

Beautiful in God’s Eyes

This is actually a book study on the Proverbs 31 Woman. However, since much of Proverbs 31 talks about homemaking, this book also covers quite a lot of practical, helpful and scriptural advice relating to the home. I read this book several years ago and it’s been one of my favorites ever since. If you would like a good, encouraging, and uplifting book to guide you in your life and homemaking, then I would highly recommend this book! (This book uses various Bible translations.)

The Welcoming Hearth

This is a simple, practical, and slightly old-fashioned book about hospitality. This book is full of tips, easy recipes, and great ideas for having friends over for tea, hosting dinners and more! If you need some good old-fashioned advice on hospitality, you might just want to check this book out.

The Good Life for Less

This book is written by a mom and blogger who’s main objective is to live a good life on a budget. I love this book for it’s simple and helpful recipes…. and the way this mom inspires me to make my house a place of fun and refreshment for my hubby and future family. This is a great book for moms as she also includes party ideas, kid-friendly recipes and more. I got a lot of really great, practical ideas from this book and I think you will too!

Other Books to Look Into:

Here is a small list of books that I haven’t had the chance to read yet… but they are on my radar and on my to-read list! I am including this in case you may want to check these out as well.

  1. Although it’s not only about the home, A Woman After God’s Own Heart by Elizabeth George changed how I felt about keeping my home today and how to put practical priorities in order. I’m almost finished with another book (The Power of a Praying Woman) then I may have to get one of these!

    1. I love that book as well!! Elizabeth George has such great and practical stuff in her books! Thanks for sharing!

  2. What do you think of Jasmine Baucham’s recent blog post where she says she regrets not moving out and going to college at 18, and wishes she hadn’t written her book?

    1. Woah! I don’t remember ever being on her blog… but that’s really too bad that she feels that way. I guess we all regret somethings, but at the time she seemed perfectly content at home. Obviously she has changed a lot….

    2. I read several of Jasmine’s posts and I find she is thoughtfully reflecting on how a person’s understanding develops as they grow up. She seems a very faithful, Bible-centred woman.

  3. Another excellent book on the home qnd being a homemaker is “Living Virtuously- A Wife’s Complete Guide to Keeping Her Heart and Home” by Erin Harrison. As some others mentioned, i also loved “A Woman After God’s Own Heart” by Elizabeth George. Also for pastor’s wives, or wives involved in ministry, “It’s a Wonderful Life” by Terrie Chappell is excellent. I am a young pastor’s wife, so that one really connected with me. Thanks so much for your great article!

    1. Thank you so much for sharing!! I never heard of the first title you mentioned but it sounds very good! I also have (and love!) It’s A Wonderful Life. Thanks for commenting!

  4. I tried the fly lady once… the beginning emails were a little overwhelming! I did keep one thing in mind though… keep your sink clean!!!

    1. I never signed up for her emails… But the book was good. I love how she encourages baby steps and routines for everything! It’s helped me a lot!

  5. Hi, I love your blog!

I’m a Filipina and I am getting married next year! Do you know where to purchase those books you mentioned?

    1. Hello there! I’m so glad you enjoy the blog! All of these titles should be available for purchase on Amazon. Simply click on the title of the book – it’s a link so it should take you directly to the site!
