Hello Friends!
Today, I am really excited to share some very practical marriage books for both husbands AND wives. The following four books are simple, easy-to-read, short, and practical – it doesn’t get much better than that does it?!
Since this blog is for women, I will focus primarily are on the two books specifically for wives. There will be links and some information on the two books for husbands, and I’ll share my husbands thoughts on those two books as well. ๐
4 Practical Marriage Books for You AND Your Husband
This book has been around for several years now, but it recently got an updated cover. I was so excited to finally get my hands on this book (and it’s companion) because I’ve heard so many good things about it!
The author, Lisa Jacobson is a well known blogger, speaker, and author. While I don’t agree with everything she teaches, all the marriage content I’ve read and heard from her blog and podcast has been very good. Lisa and her husband Matt have been married for 25+ years and they’ve been pouring out marriage wisdom and knowledge into couple’s lives for years.
The book 100 Little Ways to Love Your Husband is just what the title says. Each page of this book contains a simple idea or “way” to love your husband. All the ideas are simple and easy to put into practice right away!
Here are some of my favorite suggestions from the book:
- NEVER leave off with the romance.
- Be willing to listen.
- Make loving him your priority.
- Be filled with joy.
- Fall asleep in his arms.
- Show appreciation for the many things he does.
- Make his dreams your dreams.
- Start each day with a smile and a kiss.
- And 92 more! ๐
Each suggestion comes with further thoughts and ideas from Lisa, including some personal illustrations and stories from her own marriage.
This is a small book that only took me a day or two to read. Because there are so many ideas and suggestions, you could read one idea each day and seek to put it into practice before the day ends. I look forward to reaching for this book again in the future – whenever I need to be reminded of how to love my husband well.
100 Ways to Love Your Husband is definitely a wonderful and practical resource for every wife to have on her shelf!
The Companion Book: 100 Ways to Love Your Wife
This is the companion book that goes along with 100 Ways to Love Your Husband written by Matt Jacobson. While I’m sure it’s an excellent book – I haven’t read it! ๐ However, here are some thoughts about the book from my husband, Adam…
Thought’s from My Husband:
“True love is action and this book describes how to actively love your wife. It has 100 easy-to-use suggestions that can be easily implemented into your marriage.” – Adam
From one wife to another, I would encourage you to read the book for wives and if your husband expresses interest in this one, then by all means, get it for him! If not, don’t push the book on your husband if it’s not something he wants to read. Hopefully, you’re husband won’t feel that way, but I believe it’s best for us to focus on changing our selves first – it’s God’s job to work in the heart of our husband, not our’s!
100 Words of Affirmation Your Husband Need to Hear
This book is an excellent reminder of the power of our words. The words we speak to our husband can either build him up, or tear him down. This isn’t just common sense, it’s a biblical principle we see quite often in Scripture!
“A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.” Proverbs 15:4
“Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.” Proverbs 16:24
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” Proverbs 18:21
Just like the previous books, this one contains 100 words (or phrases) that will speak love and encouragement into your husband’s heart. This book was especially helpful to me, because I know my husband’s love language is words of affirmation! Although, I personally believe that anyone can benefit from loving and encouraging words!
Here are some of my favorite suggestions from this book:
- Saying yes to marrying you is the best decision I ever made.
- In your arms is my favorite place to be.
- When you listen to me, I feel so loved.
- I prayed for you today.
- Thanks for the great date!
- I need you.
- I’ve learned so much from you.
- Your approval means the world to me.
Once again, Lisa shares more behind each suggestions, why it matters, when you should say it, etc. The personal stories and illustrations from her relationship with her husband is helpful and insightful too!
I’m grateful for this book as it has helped me speak the love language my husband needs and wants to hear!
100 Words of Affirmation Your Husband Needs to Hear isn’t just a helpful book for wives married to men with the love language of “words”, it’s a helpful resource for every wife!
The Companion Book: 100 Words of Affirmation Your Wife Needs to Hear
Once again, I am sure this is an excellent book by Matt Jacobson, but I have not read this one myself! Here are my husband’s thoughts on this particular book…
Thoughts From my Husband:
“This is a MUST READ for any man desiring to take his marriage to new heights. If you are like me, you struggle to think of the right things to say at the right time. This book has the answers. Just flip through the pages for lots of helpful suggestions.” – Adam

Thanks for sharing! I’m not married, but I love books that give a practical list of ways to show someone that you love them. A lot of suggestions can usually be tweaked for you to use on family and friends. Some don’t even need tweaked! (Such as being filled with joy.) The “Words of Affirmation” books look particularly interesting as I usually draw a blank when it comes to what to say and when to say it.
Thank you for sharing! I’m not married yet but this will be good to read for when I am married someday!โฅ๏ธ๐
