Hello Friend,
I hope February was a wonderful month for you! It went equally fast and slow for us. A lot happened in February –
- We got a few more snow storms.
- Little man got sick again (he’s fine now!).
- My grandfather passed away from cancer (I’m grateful he is no longer suffering and thankful for the hope of Heaven!).
- We had a lovely Valentine’s Day.
- We celebrated family birthdays.
- My husband surprised me with a special date on the 4 year anniversary of our engagement!
- Daniel had his one year pictures taken.
- We hosted family and friends for food and games.
- My husband and I finally learned how to play Catan (yes, it is FUN!).
- Our church plant held our first ever, baptismal service.
As you can see, it was a full month! I’m grateful for the good times and thankful for God’s grace during the difficult ones.
In regards to books, I did not read as many books last month compared to January (you can catch up on my January Reads right here!). However, I still managed to finish a few titles.

February Reads: What I’m Reading Month by Month
The Edge of Belonging by Amanda Cox
This was a really sweet story with the themes of abandonment, love, adoption, and belonging. While, aspects of the story may have been a little far-fetched (I can be a bit skeptical) I really enjoyed this story. Adoption is something that’s been on my heart and mind for a long time, so I appreciated the close up look. There were also several aspects of the book that felt incredibly relate-able… there was a grandmother’s passing and a sick baby in the story, and this past month, I experienced similar things. Considering this was written by a debut author, she did an excellent job! I gave it 4 stars on Goodreads.
Think Big: Unleasing Your Potential For Excellence by Ben Carson
Ben Carson’s story fascinates me. Every time we watch Gifted Hands (the move based on his life’s story) I just want to sit down and read more books! This particular book felt very much like a memoir in the beginning, Dr. Carson talked about the special people in his life (past and present) that helped him get to where he is now. The second half of the book talked in detail about his “THINK BIG” acrostic. I enjoyed this book very much, although there was definitely a very strong “self-help” undercurrent. With that aside, I learned some very helpful and practical things from this book. I gave it 4 stars on Goodreads.
The Pastor’s Wife: Strengethened by Grace for Life of Love by Gloria Furman
I wanted to love this book – but unfortunately, I did not. As I’ve mentioned on Goodreads, I really struggle with Gloria Furman’s writing style. I was looking for a helpful and practical book on the subject of being a pastor’s wife, but this just wasn’t it. The first few chapters of the book had some statements that were dripping with reformed theology… not to mention I disagreed with her views on ecclesiology. However, the book wasn’t all bad – I enjoyed the cultural aspect of the book (Gloria and her husband are church planters in the Middle East) and there was a chapter on serving and using your gifts that was helpful. All in all, I ended up giving it 2 stars on Goodreads. Maybe one day this book will take on a new meaning for me.
Final Thoughts
If you follow me on Goodreads, you will know that I skipped mentioning a book this month (I read four titles in February – not just three). Unfortunately, there was one book that I just can’t in good conscience recommend, so I decided to not mention it on here. If you’re really curious, you can read my straight forward review on Goodreads.
How about you? What did you read this month? Tell me below!
Until Next Time,
Like you I had a busy month and unfortunately didn’t get to read has much as I liked. I am still in high school, so school and everything else kept me really busy. The book I did read in February is titled Calico Brides by Darlene Franklin, it is 4 stories that take place in Calico Kansas. I really enjoyed reading this book it is Historical Christian Romance Fiction and it uses the King James Bible wish I love, because there are fewer and fewer books that are using the Kings James Version. One book I am looking foward to to read in March is The Most Important Women of the Bible by Aaron and Elaina Sharp. I have never read a book about the women of the Bible but I really, really have wanted to. So I am excited to read this and hopefully more books this Month. Thank you for another post.๐
Hi Martha, It’s always hard to fit in reading when you’re busy! Thanks for sharing about the book you read and the one you hope to read soon. I hope you enjoy the book on the women of the Bible!
I love how you’re so consistent with reading, even as your seasons of life have changed! I always love hearing what others have read, as it gives me new ideas ๐
Thank you, Elizabeth! I hope your reading is going well too – I love seeing you post about new books you’ve read!
