6 Favorite Books from 2025 (So Far)

Read my E-Book, Radiant Modesty, to learn how to embrace God's ideal for the clothing we wear!

Hello Friends,

Long time, no post. I’ve had such an itch to get back to creating content and making new posts for this little blog of mine. 🙂

Many of you know how much I love reading (it IS my favorite hobby after all). So, since we are halfway through 2025 already, I thought I would go ahead and share some of my favorite books from 2025 (so far).

The Happiest Man on Earth by Eddie Jaku

This is a biography written by a holocaust survivor (yes, he wrote this book himself at 100 years old!). Eddie’s story is simply incredible. I was horrified and brought to tears several times while reading this book. By the end of the book, I felt incredibly grateful for the life God has given me – stories like this help a person realize just how “good” we have it in life.

Note: one of the saddest parts of this book was realizing the Eddie did not believe in God, and likely never received Christ as His Savior before entering Eternity.

I gave this book 5 stars on Goodreads.

A More Sure Word by R.B. Ouellette

There was a lot of buzz in our circles recently about the Bible version debate. This is something I wanted to learn more about so I pulled this book off my husband’s bookshelves. 🙂 R.B. Ouellette is one of my favorite Baptist writers and this book was excellent. This is a topic that could be a little “dry” in some books, but I found the author’s writing to be very thoughtful and engaging. I came away with a much better understanding of the issue and more confidence than ever in my beloved KJV Bible.

If you have ever found yourself a bit befuddled by the ongoing Bible version debate I would encourage you to read this book!

Becoming Homeschoolers by Monica Swanson

As someone who is getting ready to jump headfirst into homeschooling, this was a great “introductory” book. Some of the information was not new to me (since I was homeschooled) but I really appreciate Monica’s insight from homeschooling four boys! It was definitely an encouraging read and one that I will probably return to again!

Teaching From Rest by Sarah Mackenzie

Yes, another homeschooling book (can you tell what’s been on my mind lately?). This is a quick read and very encouraging. I loved all the reminders of taking things slow, of keeping the most important things in mind (you’re teaching a child, not just trying to get through a curriculum), and being sure that my own cup is filled up in the process.

Note: the author is Catholic and that does come through in her writing and the people she quotes in her book.

Boy Mom by Monica Swanson

After reading her book on homeschooling, I knew I would enjoy Monica’s book on raising boys (she has four sons!). This book is now one of my favorite books for boy moms. Monica has such a gracious and balanced approach while still following a biblical pattern of childrearing. She shares insight from the little years to the teen years. I highlighted a lot in this book and will definitely be referencing it again.

How Can I Feel Productive as a Mom? by Esther Engelsma

This is a very short little booklet that packs a powerful punch! Esther conveys a new perspective regarding productivity and teaches the reader to ask the question: what is the best use of my time right now? Sometimes we need to shift our focus from “getting things done” to “using our time well.” This book was both challenging and encouraging to me as a mother. (And bonus: I was able to read the whole thing in about 30 minutes!)

Wrapping it Up

There are quite a few books I’m reading at the moment (and many, many more that I hope to read soon!). Perhaps, at the end of the year, I’ll have to round up my top five!

Please Remember: just because I read and enjoy a book, doesn’t mean it will be a great fit for you! All of us have different standards and preferences regarding the books we read. Authors have unique perspectives and writing styles and we are all drawn to different books and topics. Don’t ever forget that the Word of God is the most important book we can read… and it’s God’s Word that should help us determine the types of books that we read!

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8

How about You?

  1. I have really been enjoying some deep.dive devotionals lately, that combine reading the devotional with reading the Scriptures for myself and then Journaling about it.
One is by Francie Taylor called Apply– it is a 30 day devotional on Proverbs.. the other Is by Kathy Ashley on the book of James- called Herbs for the Heart a study of James.
And I also enjoy reading a good biography and recently read Edgar Harrell’s autobiography Out of the Depths- a WW2 story by a godly Christian man… both devotionals are KJV which I LOVE. Seems it’s getting harder to find good devotionals that are these days.

    1. Hi Julie! Those sound great – thank you for sharing! I will have to check those out. I have heard of Francie Taylor (as a speaker) but didn’t realize she has written some books.

  2. These sound wonderful! I like Rachel Weaver’s “Be Your Own Doctor”. It’s great to have around! As for devotionals, I’m currently reading the “Valley of Vision”, a collection of Puritan prayers – I highly recommend it; it is changing the way I pray!
