10 Goals for Every Young Woman

10 Goals for Every Young Woman - Here are 10 goals that every young woman should set. Are you striving to become a godly woman? Be sure to read this post and set some goals!

(Disclosure: this post does contain some affiliate links.)

Why are goals important? Because goals provide us with a place to aim. Without goals and direction we won’t accomplish much, and we most certainly won’t accomplish the things God created us to do.

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10

Following is a list of 10 goals I think every young woman should strive for.  I would encourage you to read this list then, break it down and create your own list of ways to reach these goals.  Personalize this list, make it your own, and start setting and reaching some goals that will please and honor the Lord.

10 Goals For Every Young Woman

Goal #1: Have a Close Walk With God

“He hath shown thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?” Micah 6:8 (Emphasis mine)

First of all, how is your walk with God?  Do you even have a walk with God?  The greatest goal you can set for your life is to have a close and personal walk with God. A relationship with God begins at salvation and then should be cultivated for the rest of your life!

Beginning today, make sure you are walking with God.  First, have you received Christ as your personal Savior? Are you spending time with God daily? Do you talk to Him in prayer? Are you reading His Word?

→ Make your walk with God the #1 priority in your life!

Goal #2: Study God’s Word

“Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, right dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15

It’s not enough to just read the Bible. You need to learn how to study the Bible. Determine today that you will become a life-long student of the Word of God. So many people get caught up in following sports, researching their interests, or spending money on their favorite hobbies. As a Christian young woman, you should desire to learn and know God’s Word more than anything else!  It’s the greatest book you could ever study because it tells you about the God who loves you!  Therefore, become a student of God’s Word. Make time to study the Bible.

Goal #3: Get Involved in Your Local Church

Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” Hebrews 10:25 (Emphasis mine)

Serve the Lord with gladness; come before his presence with singing.” Psalm 100:2 (Emphasis mine)

Do you attend church on a regular basis? Every young woman should have a “church home”. A place to worship the Lord and gather with other believers.  Not only should you be worshiping and fellow shipping with other Christians, you should be getting involved in the ministries of a local church.  Churches need faithful members who will devote their time and talents to serving the Lord (and others) through the ministries of the church.  So, if you are not a part of a local church, find one that preaches the Truth of God’s Word, attend faithfully, and get busy serving the Lord!

Goal #4: Develop Your Gifts

“As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” 1 Peter 4:10

“Neglect not the gift that is in thee…” 1 Timothy 4:14 (Emphasis mine)

God has given every believer a gift… a particular “spiritual gift”. There is a lot to learn about spiritual gifts so I won’t even get into that subject in this post. However, as a Christian, it is important to know what gift God has given you. Once you know what gift you have been given, you can learn how to cultivate it and use it to the fullest for God’s glory.  (See Romans 12 and 1 Corinthians 12 to read about spiritual gifts.)

Not only has God given you a specific spiritual gift, He has also given you many unique talents and strengths. Find out what you are naturally good at (your strengths) and work on improving them.  If more people were cultivating their gifts and actually using them, the church (and the world) would be much better off today!

Goal #5: Grow in Wisdom and Understanding

“Get wisdom, get understanding…” Proverbs 4:5

“Wisdom is the principle [most important] thing; therefore get wisdom, and with all thy getting get understanding.” Proverbs 4:7

Every young woman should be striving to grow in wisdom and understanding. You can do this by: reading God’s Word, praying for wisdom and understanding, and talking to godly friends and counselors. Not to mention reading biblical books that are chock full of wisdom from godly men and women. Determine to become a young woman who is growing in wisdom and understanding… it is the principle thing therefore, get wisdom.

Goal #6: Establish Good Friendships and Relationships

“Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.” Proverbs 27:17

Good friends can pull you up and pull you along.  They can encourage you in the things of the Lord, they can “sharpen” your thinking, and they can add a lot of joy to your life. The right kind of friends are so important. “You are who your friends are.” Choose your friends wisely.  Seek out friends who are walking with God, growing in wisdom, and are focused on God (not the world).

Also, seek out older and godly mentors. Learn to befriend those who have been around longer than you. Godly mentors can pray for you, counsel you, and keep you accountable.

Once you have established some good friendships and relationships, be the BEST friend you can be. Make sure you are loyal, kind, and thoughtful.

Goal #7: Become Self-Disciplined

“He that ruleth his spirit [is better] than he that taketh a city.” Proverbs 16:32

We are living in a time of self-indulgence. Yet, it’s the opposite of what God wants for us. Many people are wasting their lives by wasting their time.  Too many people are living in messy homes, and even more people are overweight. These things are so normal and commonplace. Why? Because fewer and fewer people have learned the freedom of living a disciplined life. Learning to set rules and boundaries for yourself is not going to squelch your freedom or enjoyment of life – rather, it will do the opposite. When you learn to control your time, your desires, and your appetites, you will see that there is true freedom in being a self-disciplined person.

Goal #8: Prepare for the Future

“Go to the ant thou sluggard; consider her ways and be wise: which having no guide, overseer or ruler, Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.” Proverbs 6:6-8 (Emphasis mine)

A little ant it smart enough to provide (or prepare) in the summer for the coming harvest. You ought to be smart enough to prepare for the future as well! Here are some simple ways you ought to think about preparing for the future:

  • Learn the biblical roles of a wife and mother
  • Research ways to earn money from home
  • Create a savings account and add to it faithfully
  • Take the time to learn cooking skills
  • Learn how to care for a home
  • Gain the skills you will actually use someday
  • Learn how to care for children
  • Start a “hope chest” of things you will use someday in your own home
  • Honestly consider what you want in a husband
  • Determine your own standards and convictions

All these things will help you prepare for the future. Be wise and prepare as much as you can!

Goal #9: Become a Virtuous Woman

“Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.” Proverbs 31:10

Learn what it means to be a virtuous woman, because, the Bible says she is worth far more than rubies!  Study the Proverbs 31 woman and examine her life as shown in Proverbs 31:10-31. Determine the character traits she displays and work to cultivate them in your own life. As a result, you will be blessed!

(Read my favorite book on the Proverbs 31 Woman!)

Goal #10: Always Be Learning

“A wise man will hear, and will increase learning…” Proverbs 1:5 (Emphasis mine)

Finally, make it your goal that you will always be learning. Discipline yourself to read books, study, and research. Be sure to have an open mind but test everything you learn with the Word of God. Never become so proud that you think you “know it all”. Be humble enough to keep learning and seeking after knowledge. Make learning a habit in your life.

So, what can you do today to keep learning?

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, please realize there are more goals that young women should set for themselves, but these ten are very important. I hope you will take time to really consider this list and make plans to reach these goals yourself. It will be a lifelong process but, it will be worth it.

I Would Love to Know

  1. Hi Rebekah,

Thank you for posting this article, I really enjoyed reading this, and I have realized that I have a lot more to work on when it comes to setting goals for myself beginning with number 4. Thank you for sharing this, I appreciate it. Also, I am also working on being a more organized woman. Maybe one day you can write a post on how you have learned to stay organized in your life.

    God bless you

    1. Hi Jessica,
I am so glad you enjoyed reading this article… I enjoyed writing it 🙂
Organization is something I am still learning, but maybe I will share a post on it someday -thanks for the idea!

  2. Hi Rebekah,
Its always a pleasure to read your articles. I have tought about all these things already. But i really nood to step up my game and just do them. I’m already working on some of the goals but there’s still a lot that i need to do. But the Lord wil surely see me trough.
I pray that God blesses you with more wisdom so you can keep helping us trough the process of growing spiritually. Thank u

    Michele

    1. Hi Michele,
Yes, there is always “more work to do” for the Lord… But He will help us as we seek to become the women He wants us to be! Don’t give up on your goals, keep striving to please HIM in all that you do!
Thank you so much for reading and leaving a comment. It was a pleasure to hear from you!

  3. Hi Rebekah!

Thank you for posting this! I really enjoyed reading through each goal. I think the one I need to work on the most is Goal #7: Become Self-Disciplined. That is really hard for me. It is hard for me to manage my time wisely and stay organized. A goal I would add would be to mentor the next generation. Investing in those who are younger than you is so important! It’s great to share what God has been teaching to you with other girls. 🙂

    Thanks again!
    Natalie

    1. Hi Natalie,
I’m so glad you enjoyed reading through this list! Thank you for leaving a comment to let me know 🙂
Yes, self-discipline is a tough one for me too. Don’t give up!
And yes, mentoring the next generation is extremely important too! Thank you for mentioning it – it’s definitely an important goal to keep in mind!

  4. Hi Rebekah!
Thank you for this post! As a practical girl, I’m always making goal lists, but I don’t think I’m dedicated to accomplishing them as I ought to be. So, I would add dedication/determination to ACTUALLY DO the things we say we want to do! 😉 We need to be serious about it and always use ever moment the wisest way we can.
I struggle with cooking skills (in preparing for the future); I really dislike cooking and baking, and I am not a nice person to be around when I’m in the kitchen! That is something I really need to work on. One way I am overcoming this is, my grandma comes over on Mondays and we cook a few meals together for my large family to have during the week. Learning skills with someone is a lot more fun and motivational than doing it by yourself sometimes! 🙂

    1. Hi Grace!
Thanks for sharing 🙂 Dedication and determination are SO important too -and you are SO right… we need them to complete our goals. They could definitely fall under the “self-discipline” category. If we are self-disciplined we will display the diligence it takes to accomplish our goals. Trust me, this is a big struggle for me too!

Keep it up in the kitchen! Since it’s not something you naturally enjoy, try praying about it! God cares about the little things and surely He can give you a desire and a love for cooking! That may sound silly but really – He tells us to do everything heartily as unto Him (Col. 3:23) so that includes cooking. I think it’s GREAT that you are learning to cook with your grandma. I would love an opportunity like that but it isn’t possible for me with my grandma – take advantage of that wonderful blessing!

    1. Hi Donna,
That’s okay. It’s not too late to begin a relationship with God -right now! If you have never accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior (and your only way to Heaven) then that is where it must start. If you have already accepted Him as your personal Savior, He wants you to get to know Him better and walk with Him each day (through Bible reading and prayer). Please let me know if you have any questions! I would love to help you out in any way possible!

  5. Thank you for this article. I am bad about wanting to do so many things and having so many goals that I don’t prioritize them right. I put my relationship with Jesus on the back burner.. Not intentionally but I do. These goals are so helpful for me. I want to grow closer to God and live a life for him. Thank you so much for your help.

    Tiffany

    1. Hi Tiffany,
Thank you for sharing your desire to grow closer to God. Remember, if we draw nigh to God, He will draw nigh to us (James 4:8). Pray about your goals, and ask the Lord to help you get your priorities straight. He wants to help you and give you wisdom! (James 1:5)

  6. Thank you so much… I am committing myself from today i will accomplish this goals…it is not easy but the Lord will see me through… God bless you

    1. Hello Lisa,
You’re right – these goals aren’t always easy things to pursue, but God WILL help us if we ask Him to 🙂

  7. Thanks alot Ma.

Actually I was thinking of what goals to set exactly cause it’s like my first time doing so. I have written alot of plans, which I don’t stick to. I have read other articles on goal setting. I tried them but the whole thing seemed complex.
Was just browsing and came across your article which is really helpful. I would stick to this goals instead.

I would love to read your books and read other articles. Thanks alot.

You are doing a great Job. Keep keeping on, Ma’am. 💝💝

  8. But what about academics?

For a lady who is a student staying in a hostel, how does she balance things, her academics, spiritual and relationships esp when it is a hard course like medicine. What can be done?
