Hey Friends,
I can’t believe it’s already time for me to share my December goal list! This is the last month of the year and then it will be 2019! Time flies every month.
December will be busy – as always. I feel very prepared for the holidays this year… much more than other years. Most of our Christmas gifts have been purchased and wrapped, the house is decorated, our Christmas cards are printed, and our plans for the holidays are pretty much set.
Our church is having a Christmas play next weekend. My husband and I are both in the play and there will be a total three performances. I am excited, but at the same time I think I will be able to breathe a little easier once all three performances are over!
Goal setting for December is a little trickier with the busyness of the month, so I am going to set some easier goals for the next 31 days. After I share my goals for the month I would love to hear what you have planned for December.
Let’s jump right in – here are my goals:
December To-Do List {Monthly Goals}
1. Read the Book of Luke
I have really enjoyed reading the Gospels this year, so for the month of December I want to re-read Luke. The Gospel of Luke has a great account of the birth of Christ, so that’s why I chose this book.
It’s always good to read portions of Scripture that remind us of the true meaning of Christmas.ย I hope you will read about the birth of Christ at least once this December.
>>> If you are looking for a book to read this Christmas, I would encourage you to read The Women of Christmas. I enjoyed this book several Christmases ago and would definitely recommend it!
2. Finish My Reading Goal
I got a little behind in my reading goal this month. For some reason the month of November just did not lend itself to much reading. Honestly, I am quite shocked that November is basically over already!
My goal for this year was 50 books. Since I’ve gotten behind in my reading, I now need to read eight books this month (or two book per week) to finish my goal. I’m a fairly fast reader, but I know that December will be busy. My goal is to finish off a bunch of books during my long break for Christmas and New Year!
3. Choose My One Word for 2019
At the end of every year, I am always so excited to choose a new word for the next year. This year my one word was flourish…. you can read all about that right here.
Looking back over this year, I wasn’t as mindful about my word as I should have been. In spite of that, I can still see how God has helped me to flourish all throughout 2018. I may decide to continue into next year with same word (flourish) OR choose a word that’s similar… or maybe one that’s entirely different. Obviously, I have not decided yet – and that’s why I want to choose a word this month.
>>> Do you choose ONE word for the whole year? I would highly, highly, recommend the book My One Word: Change Your Life with Just One Word. It’s one of my all-time favorite books!
4. Plan My Goals for Next Year
Along with choosing my one word for 2019, I also want to plan out a few key goals for next year. I don’t want to make a long goal list this year – I want something shorter, more concrete, and more meaningful.
Since my husband and I are planning to set out on deputation, next year is going to look a lot different than any other year I’ve experience before. I am excited to see what God has in store for us in 2019!
5. Savor this Season
I am looking forward to just enjoying and savoring the holidays with my family. Christmas is such a special time of year and I want to treat it as such. Yes, I want to have a productive month, and yes, I want to get a lot done…. but at the same time I also want to just slow down and enjoy the beautiful and miraculous season that celebrates the birth of our Savior!
Final Thoughts
My goals are a lot simpler this month than most – that’s partly due to the fact that December can be so busy. January will be the perfect month to be productive and get work done. I just want to enjoy this last month of the year and savor the season.
How about you? What are your goals for the month of December? Are you getting excited about the New Year?
I can’t wait to hear about your goals and plans for this month. Please share them in the comments below! โฅ
With Love,
Sounds great! I’ve never read the One-Word book, but I think you’ve pretty much convinced me to give it a try! Although, I’m curious, doing 1 word per year… is that a little long? Would it be better to break it up into quarterly, monthly or weekly themes? I guess reading that book will be one of my goals for this new month:) Anyhow, I hope you have a great December! God Bless <3
Actually, one year with just one word is absolutely perfect! Oh, please do give the book a try – it is SO good! It will explain how it all works too!
Well, I’ve put the book on my December to-do list, and will likely be figuring out a word for 2019 ๐
I’m trying to choose my one-word too. This year’s was more of a phrase “Be a Light!” But this year, I want to choose a word.
I too am trying to finish my reading goal. I started with a 100 book goal and found out that was too lofty, so I dropped it down to 50. Almost there!
My goal is to enjoy December and take time to do some special things with my two youngest siblings ๐
You’ll have to let me know what word you choose for 2019!
Oh yay – you’re almost there with your reading goal. Keep it up!
Have a lovely December! โฅ
HOW is it December already?? I can’t believe it! This December, I hope to read an Advent/Christmas plan on YouVersion (possibly with a friend or two), start working on my 2019 goal list, upload 2 Christmas videos to YouTube, letter a Bible verse in Spanish and frame it for my Spanish teacher, write Christmas cards, have some sort of a sibling Christmas party/celebration (baking treats, watching a movie while drinking hot cocoa, etc.), read The Case for Christmas by Lee Strobel, give a surprise gift without signing my name, and more! I’m also planning on doing my 3rd annual “New Year’s Blog Week” where I blog daily for a week, and possibly even creating a Pinterest account specifically for my blog. I’m excited to see what December will hold!
P.S. — I don’t have an Instagram account so I can’t comment on there, but I saw your post about God creating some couples with hands that just *fit* each other’s perfectly. For some reason, that just really touched me, and I wanted to thank you for sharing that!
Hi Grace – those are all such good goals! I love hearing what you have planned each month. I hope you can get all those things accomplished!
Thanks for reading that Instagram post, I am so glad you enjoyed it. A lot of other people really liked that post too. I am glad I decided to share it – I wasn’t sure what everyone would think. Thanks for mentioning it ๐
