Thoughts, Bible Verses, and Tips for When You Feel Like A Failure

Good Morning Friends,

Today I want to talk about something that troubles many women (including myself!). Sometimes no matter what we do, or how hard we try… we feel like a failure. We can get consumed with the thoughts like the following…

  • How will I ever get it all done?
  • Will I ever be able to please so-and-so?
  • What if I never change?
  • I will never be as good as _________________________.
  • Oops. I did it again – I will never gain victory over this sin.
  • I can never do anything right.
  • Why am I sooo tired?
  • I wish I could change __________________ about myself.

Can you relate?

No one is perfect. We are bound to mess up and fail at times. However, living with the feeling of being a failure is something we can overcome – with God’s help.

Feelings of being a “failure” often come when we are physically tired, overwhelmed, discouraged, or even struggling with sin.  All of those things can be overcome. Sometimes all we need to do is examine ourselves in the light of God’s Word, then make the necessary changes.

I want to share some practical things today, that will help avoid and overcome thoughts and feelings like those mentioned above. But before I do… here are three simple truths to consider about God – from His Word.

3 Thoughts for When You Feel Like a Failure

1. God Loves You

“The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.” Jeremiah 31:3

God loves you so much. He sent his Son to die for you. In spite of your sins and failures, He will never stop loving you. His love is unchanging. You cannot do anything to increase or decrease His love for you. His love is not based on your performance… instead it is based upon His unchanging character and everlasting love.

2. God Will Forgive You

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9

When you sin, God will forgive you. If you go to Him with a true heart of repentance you will never be denied forgiveness. He will not hold your sins and failures against you… instead He will forgive you and love you just the same. He is always ready and willing to forgive, and His mercy and grace is free and ready to be extended the moment you ask. Sin and guilt does not need to have dominion over you. Because of His mercy you can be forgiven, and because of His grace you can live in victory.

3. God Can Carry Your Load

“Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and He shall sustain thee…” Psalm 56:22

“Casting all your care upon him, for he careth for you.” 1 Peter 5:7

For every struggle and trial that comes into your life, God has a plan. The weight you are carrying was not meant to break you. He wants to teach you to turn to Him so He can carry your load. Through overwhelming trials and troubles, you can rely on HIS strength. His grace and strength is there to carry you through…

You will fall, and you will fail. But you can get back up again. God does not want His children to fall and stay down on the ground… He wants to extend His mercy and grace to help you get back up again.

Now… let’s look at some practical tips. Doing these things can help you gain victory and overcome discouragement and thoughts of failure.

Practical Tips

Get Your Rest – A lack of sleep can only intensify overwhelming feelings and thoughts of being a failure.  Do your best to get the rest you need and you will be better prepared to do battle against wrong thoughts and emotions.

Immerse Yourself in the Word of God – Spending time in God’s Word, meditating on Scripture will encourage your heart. It was also remind you of God’s everlasting love for you… and the grace, mercy, and strength is always willing to give you.

Pray About Your Thoughts and Feelings – God understands the way you feel, and He understands your emotions. Why? Because He created you, and He gave you the ability to feel and express emotions. He also gave you the ability to think. Pray about your thoughts and feelings and ask Him to you correctly align them with the Truth of His Word.

Turn to Other Believers  – Who do you trust? Who is your main confidant and friend? After sharing your burdens with the Lord, turn to someone who can help. Share your feelings and struggles and ask your friend to pray for you. Seek help, counsel, and encouragement from other Christians. God has placed other believers in our lives to help carry one another’s burdens (Galatians

Make Some ChangesWhy do you feel like a failure? Are you too busy to get it all done? Do you struggle to maintain good relationships? Have you made some poor decisions? Evaluate your life and pinpoint why you feel like a failure. If you are too busy and things are falling to the wayside, cut something out of your schedule, or ask for some help. Is there a relationship in your life that is failing? Pray for help. Read God’s Word and do your part to make amends. God does not want you to feel hopeless. He has given us the resources of His Word, prayer, godly counselors, and friends to help us live a victorious life. Turn to the Lord and seek His guidance to make the proper changes.

Keep Praying and Reading God’s Word – I just wanted to say it again. 🙂 These two things (as well as the encouragement of other believers) with help you overcome the feelings of being a failure.

Remember: In God’s eyes you are loved, you are cherished, you are valuable, and you are not a failure. Through Christ we can overcome sin, depression, discouragement, thoughts of failure and hopelessness. Through Christ we CAN conquer and overcome.

“Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerers through him that loved us.” Romans 8:37

  1. This is exactly what I needed this morning! I’ve felt like a failure when it comes to repeating past sins, and really just when I don’t meet up to the standards I set for myself–all too often. This post was such an encouragement full of needed reminders! Thank you for writing it ♥️

    1. Hey Abigail, I am so glad this post reached you right where you are… I know the struggle of dealing with failures. Thank God for His mercy and grace to help us gain victory. We are so loved ❤️

  2. Thank You for this encouraging piece. Sometimes I feel like I’m not going to be enough…no matter how hard I try but I’ve learnt to look to God, pray and trust that all things will work out for my good.

  3. Thank you so much for sharing your heart. These words helped me tremendously at just the right time. Too many times I find myself running to other people (though that can be a good thing) as my first resort to find help, rather than running to my King FIRST. Psalm 116:2 comes to mind when I think of how His ear is ALWAYS ready to hear my cries.
When we get discouraged & doubtful we also will, like you mentioned, ask ourselves degrading questions about how we have “failed,” etc. Someone once told me, “Look at what God is, not what you aren’t.” That will forever stick in my mind!
Thank you, again. Keep letting the Lord use you to reach out to teen girls. If there is ever a needed time, it is now! <3
