My Goals for December 2016

My Goals for December

Hi Friends!

There is only one month left in this year! I am already busy planning my goals and dreaming up next year. Every December something comes over me. It’s as though I realize a new page is about to be turned and I get a renewed sense of urgency – it’s time to get busy preparing for the clean slate every new year seems to provide. I will share all my goals for the New Year when it’s actually 2017. However, I decided to set some goals for this month – to tie up the loose ends of 2016 and mentally prepare myself for yet another year!

My Goals for December 2016

Finish my Reading Goal  |  I set a LOT of goals (too many!) last January. Some of them I forgot about, others I let go, and for many others – I procrastinated. Yet this is one goal I am absolutely bound and determined to see through to the end. Books and reading are a big part of my life so, once again, I set a goal to read 100 new books this year. They haven’t all been new books (I re-read about 10 books) but I am at 83 books right now. December will be a busy month, but I am looking forward to curling up by the lights of the Christmas tree to read my way to 100 books!

Re-Organize my Room | My bedroom is pretty organized – except for those hidden areas where no eyes can see: underneath my bed, my junk drawer, and my two closets. Before the New Year I want to clean up and re-organize these areas of my bedroom.

Finish Setting my Goals for 2017 | I’ve already chosen my one word for next year.  Now I am excited to finish my list of goals.  I am going to do things a lot different next year… I want to have less goals and more focus. Things change throughout the year and I realize some goals may need to change with me – something I wish I had thought about at the beginning of this year!

Get Adjusted to My New Planner | I made myself a planner the other week. Not only is it fully personalized, it can be used any time of the year. It can grow and change with me because it’s super flexible and can be customized to however it fits me best. There are a few things I want to add/change and this month I want to get adjusted to using it.

Finish Christmas Shopping/Wrapping | I hope to have this finished sooner rather than later. I do at least half of my shopping online (thanks, Amazon!) but I have a bunch of stores I still need to visit. I got the ball rolling last week so I should be finished soon!

Give Christmas Cookies to the Neighbors |  A friend of mine wants to get together for cookie baking so I plan to share the results with my neighbors. If I don’t share the cookies I will end up eating way too many myself! 😉 Plus, it’s always fun delivering something to elderly or lonely neighbors – it really makes their day!

Write up a Monthly Budget | I know how to save money – but actually budgeting and setting aside money for specific things (clothing, blog expenses, car insurance, etc) I still have not done successfully. One of my goals for this month is to write up a budget to follow each month next year (and this month too!).

Make it Through the Holidays Without Gaining Weight | Enough said. 🙂

How About You?

  • What do you hope to accomplish this month?
  • Are you getting excited for the New Year?

Please share your goals and thoughts in the comments! ♥

  1. I’ve already been thinking of goals for next year too! I’ve decided that my spiritual goals need to come absolute first. There are some areas in my life I really need to tackle! And while doing my devotions this morning, I knew exactly what my one word needed to be this next year! The word the Lord laid on my heart for 2016 was perseverance, which I didn’t know how much I’d need! It was so helpful 🙂 And my word for 2017 will be courage. And wow, I can’t believe you read that many books already! I love to read, but I’m not consistent about it at all lol

    1. Those are two really great words!! You will have to send me an email and tell me what all God taught you with your word, persevere. Also, can’t wait to hear what some of your goals are for 2017!

  2. I loved this post!! My favorite lists ever to write are monthly/yearly goal lists 🙂 I love brainstorming, evaluating, and then coming up with what things I want to accomplish! And it’s so cool to finally be able to cross them off when you accomplish them! 🙂
I haven’t really done the “1 word” thing for a year, but I think that one biggie that I need to work on this coming year is gratitude! Because the root of joy is gratitude… and the Bible commands us to be thankful! Gratitude is so often forgotten, but it really is a huge fruit in a Christian’s life!
For December, my list is pretty short: complete a photography challenge, keep up with my Christmas Bible reading plans, fill up my prayer journal (I’m almost there), record a music CD of my piano pieces from this past year, finish 2 classical pieces and start memorizing them, and bake a Christmas treat. I’m also looking forward to playing the piano in a wedding in 2 weeks, singing alto in our church Christmas cantata, and getting all my Christmas shopping/wrapping done early, too 😉
Have a wonderful December!! I can’t wait to hear your new year resolutions next month! 🙂

    1. Gratitude would be a great word for 2017. Choosing a word to focus on for the year is such a fun excercise. Some years you learn a lot, others not so much…. You get out of it what you put into it 🙂 if you do try it this year you will have to share with us what you learn!!
Those are some great goals for this month! Hope it goes well and have fun crossing them off your list – that’s the best part right?!? 😉

  3. Well. I’m really looking forward to December because in the absence of school, there will finally be more time for “practical” things again. 🙂 I’ve challenged myself to practice cooking every day during break if it’s possible, and gain more confidence in going without a recipe. A few other goals are to regain some lost piano skills (the surest way is scales… sigh), catch up on my correspondence, design our family’s Christmas card, and settle into a different sleep routine. Reading in my Bible first thing in the morning will be more doable once I can get up earlier!

In general, I hope to savor the slower pace after a busy fall… The holiday season and Christmas itself are rather simple at our house. I can’t wait. 🙂

    1. Those are great goals! Have fun cooking and playing piano – those are two of my personal favorites 😉 Hope you can catch up on some good, much-needed rest during your break from school! And I hope your December is fabulous!!

  4. I had a goal of 100 books this year too, but the year is almost over and I only have about half done. 🙁 I didn’t plan as well as I should have and got busy with writing and work instead! But that’s definitely a goal for this December: Read some Christmas books. I also am getting my spiritual life, business life, life in general etc in order/setting plans of action etc for 2017. I also have Christmas prep to do (which I LOVE!) and will Lord willing be studying and writing this month too, to finish up some stuff.

    1. Hey well, half of hundred is still a lot of books!! Good for you!! I hope you have a great December…. Have fun accomplishing things and getting ready for Christmas!! ☺️
