Books About Love for Christian Women

Books About Love for Christian Women

Growing up in a conservative Christian home (and now establishing my own) I know how hard it is to find good books. I know the struggle to find reading material and entertainment that doesn’t compromise our conservative Christian standards. Thankfully, good friends and neighbors have a way of sharing the good things they find! And it’s for that purpose that I am beginning a new category here on the blog. On the last Monday of every month, I will be sharing my personal reviews about various books for Christian women and occasionally some things that fall under the “entertainment category.”

All the books I share in these posts will have been read completely by me. With each post I will be including links to the items I mention, as well as thoughts about each book. I use only the King James Bible, so I will specifically mention if a book is King James only, or if they use other Bible versions.

I want everyone to be able to benefit from these reviews, so these posts will include a wide variety of books. Because it’s almost February, and the “month of love” today’s post is filled with great books about love.  I am very, very, excited about these new posts, so let’s get started!

Books About Love for Christian Women (For Singles)

Before You Meet Prince Charming

I read this book a few years ago and loved it! This is an excellent book on love and purity for young women who are waiting to meet their prince charming.  I love the carefulness of the author as she explains the importance of purity in the life of a young woman. This book will encourage and inspire you to live a life of purity while you wait for the true love God wants you to have!

When God Writes Your Love Story

If you want to surrender your love life to God’s control then this is great book for you! I don’t agree with every single thing in this book, but this was a helpful read for me back in my “single days”. This book is a great reminder that God wants to have full control of your love life… He wants to be holding the pen sketching out every detail. God’s ways are best, especially in the area of our personal love stories.

Lady In Waiting

Another great read for single ladies… this book was helpful to me even when I wasn’t single! This book provides great food for thought, giving lots of examples from Ruth and Boaz in the Bible. This book covers multiple character traits, how to have contentment during singleness, how to find a Boaz – NOT a bozo(!) and so much more! This is definitely one of my favorite books to recommend to single ladies, or even women already in a relationship. (I’m tempted to read this again myself even though I’m already married!) 🙂

Books About Love… (For Married Women)

The Right Romance in Marriage

My fiance’ and I read this book before we got married, and now we are reading it together as a married couple. We love this book for it’s practicality, conservative style, and best of all – it’s truly biblical advice!  From choosing the right mate in the first place, to learning how to love and cherish your spouse, to enjoying the post child raising years, this book is a gem of sound, biblical, advice. I would probably recommend this marriage book before any others on this list. It’s just that good (in a conservative, old-fashioned, Biblical way)!

The Five Love Languages

This book is a frequent favorite that I mention quite often… I love it! If you want to learn how to love your man better, this is the book for you! In The Five Love Languages, Gary Chapman discusses the five common “love languages” that every person has. (Do you know your own?) This book will tell you how to identify your own love language, as well as how to identify your spouse’s love language (which is most important!). This book will also share practical ways to demonstrate each love language. Although a bit too physiological at times, this book is still a fascinating and helpful read.

Cherish

If you’ve already read The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman then here is another book for you. In Cherish, Gary Chapman explains and expounds on this meaningful (yet often forgotten) word in most marriage vows. We are called to “love and cherish” our spouse till “death do us part” but what does that mean? What does it look like to truly cherish our spouse? This book covers practical, real-life ways that both husbands and wives can actively learn how to deeply cherish their spouse.

The Love Dare

This is a great book for couples who want to strengthen or rekindle the love they have for each other. This book contains a chapter to read each day for 40 days. Each one begins with a verse and explains a challenge or exercise to complete that day… all with the overall goal of loving your spouse. This book explains the difference between artificial, sensual love, and true, biblical love… and gives you practical ways to truly love your spouse!

Final Thoughts

Please remember that while it’s good to read books – we must never forget to read the Bible first and foremost! God’s Word ought to be the ultimate authority in our lives, and we must remember to test the books and advice we read with the perfect and unfailing Word of God!

“Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.” Proverbs 30:5

No book in the list above is completely free from faults – that’s why it’s important for us to be grounded in the Word of God so we know what advice is truly biblical, and what advice should be disregarded. God’s Word is the only Perfect Book!

With that being said, I believe you can learn and grow from any of the books mentioned above… and there are even more books I wish I could mention! But these are enough books to share for now!

“A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:” Proverbs 1:5

Before you go…

  • Have you read any of the books I mention?
  • What are your favorite books about love?

Please share your answers in the comments – I love hearing from you!

  1. Very good books! I read Before You Meet Prince Charming, Lady in Waiting, and The Right Romance in Marriage. Definetly great reading material!

  2. I’ve read Before You Meet Prince Charming which was a very inspiring book.
All the other books look great as well!

  3. Passion and Purity by Elizabeth Elliot is a book on love that I’ve chosen to read this month! I’ve read through it several times before, but I still get something new from it every time I read it.

Of the books you’ve mentioned, I’ve only read the 5 Love Languages one, although I keep hearing great things about Before You Meet Prince Charming. I really should get a copy soon! I’ve been wanting to for a long time. But right now there’s a million books I want to buy, and I’m only a teenager without a job (most of the year), so I don’t need to blow all my carefully-saved money on reading material right now… 😉 Haha!

    1. Hey Grace!
I’ve never read that one… although it sounds good!!
Yes, Before You Meet Prince Charming is good… but I understand about the need to save!! There are a lot of books I would love to own, so I need to pick and choose as well 😊

  4. One that I think is good for anyone to read is “Mingling of Souls”. Coming from a background of unhealthy relationships as models, this was a good book for me reading as a 21 year old and what God’s design for love, sex, and relationships is.
